Xunantunich and Cahal Pech sites - US$75.00 (See Map)
Xunantunich (Maiden of the rock’ or, ‘Stone Woman) is a Classic Period ceremonial centre located eight miles west of San Ignacio. At the village of San Jose Succotz, we cross over the Mopan River using a hand-cranked ferry and following the track through the bush, after ten minutes we reach the visitors centre and temples. The site was discovered in 1881 by Alfred Maloney, later the site was known as Mount Maloney.. Archaeologists state that the site at Xunantunich was abandoned sometime between 890 to 900 AD. Includes lunch and the site entrance fee. This tour starts from Midas Resort at 9:00am. Cahal Pech is a Maya site located near the Town of San Ignacio the Cayo District of Belize. The site was a palacio home for an elite Maya family, and though most major construction dates to the Classic period, evidence of continuous habitation has been dated to as far back as far as 900 BC during the Early Middle Formative period (Early Middle Preclassic), making Cahal Pech one of the oldest recognizably Maya sites in Western Belize. The site rests high near the banks of the Macal River and is a collection of 34 structures, with the tallest being about 25 meters in height. The site was abandoned in the 9th century AD for unknown reasons.The name Cahal Pech, meaning "place of ticks", was given when this site was a pasture during the first archaeological studies in the 1950s. It is now an Archaeological park, and houses a small museum with artifacts from various ongoing excavations.

The ancient Maya Ruin of Caracol is located on the western edge of the Maya mountains, within the Chiquibul Forest Reserve. Caracol sits on a high plateau, some 500 meters above sea level. The site was discovered in 1938 by Rosa Mai, a logger looking for Mahogany. The main temple, ‘Caana’, is Belize’s tallest man-made structure, standing at 42 meters (139 feet). The Classic Period site is noted for the rare use of giant date glyphs on circular stone altars. In their design of Caana, the Caracol architects incorporated symbolism that reflects ancient Mayan cosmology. There is much to see and learn at Caracol, an area of the home to rare wild turkey as well as the even rarer Keel-billed Toucan and Mot-Mot. We take you through huge caverns adorned with spelothems and crystalline formation, artifacts of pottery, beads, obsidian blades and human skeletal remains that have been calcified in the limestone floor.
Let us take your imagination back to time when Maya shamans and priests would enter into trance in this cave to conduct their ceremonies and rituals. Mountain Cow is located in the Blue Hole Natural Park. After exploring the realms of the underworld (Xibalba), hike back to the vehicle and drive for five minutes to the Inland Blue Hole River. Relax and enjoy swimming in the refreshing waters of Inland Blue Hole before we return to San Ignacio.
Actun Tunichil Muknai - US$95.00 (See Map)
The Belize ATM Cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave) is the most impressive cave in Belize and the Maya Underworld. This Cave was a sacred place to the prehistoric Mayas of Belize who began using the entrance during the early classic period (300-600AD). The most famous of the human remains is “The Crystal Maiden”, the skeleton of a teenage girl, probably a sacrifice victim whose bones have been completely covered by the natural processed of the cave. When you enter the ATM Cave you will be required to do some swimming and climbing. This is a predominantly wet cave with water levels ranging from ankle to chest height. The cave river system leads you through a labyrinth of dry chambers culminating at the cathedral-like main chamber, which is 350 meters in length, 50 meters in width. In this area you will spend about an hour and a half admiring with great care the many skeletal remains and artifacts; both pottery and stone tools. Toward the back of this chamber you will climb a ladder of about 15 feet to get to the chamber of the Stone Sepulcher where you will see the skeletal remains of the famed crystallized maiden.

You will travel on the Western Highway en route to the Caves Branch Archaeological Site where you will be cave tubing. During you trip, your guide will be explaining historical and geographical facts about Belize, When we reach the site, we will take a 45min walk through the jungle that will bring us to the cave system. When we reach the Caves Branch River system we will float on our tubes through the caves seeing magnificent rock formations. This portion of the tour will take about 45 minutes. This Tour departs at 5:30 am from Midas Resort, the drive to the National Park takes about an hour. Bird watching starts at around 6:30 am until 9:00 am, after which the tour continues with a tour of St Herman’s cave. After the cave tour there is a picnic lunch at the blue hole and swimming. The Blue Hole is actually a sinkhole formed by the collapse of an underground river channel. Includes Lunch and Entrance fees.

You depart San Ignacio at 8:30am and we take you through the Mayan villages of Cristo Rey and San Antonio, after which we drive up to the Rio Frio Cave, hike on a jungle trail, tour the cave and then drive to Rio On pools for picnic lunch. After lunch we drive to the very scenic 80 ft Big Rock water fall.

This tour starts at 9:00 am in San Ignacio; we drive for 20 minutes to the lodge at Chaa Creek. Here you get a tour of the butterfly farm and the medicinal trail as well as the visitor’s centre, at the end of touring the visitor’s centre we hike for 15 minutes to the river and get in the canoes and paddle down river for two hours looking at iguanas and birds. Tikal is a great classic Maya city mysteriously abandoned around 900 AD and was home to approximately 100,000 Maya people. Tikal is one of the wonders of ancient world. Driving across the Guatemala border you will go through several villages and pass three lakes and entering the park you will encounter a jungle setting, rich in flora, fauna and wildlife. Huge temples 212ft high rise up in the middle of the jungle.
Your guide will be verse in the English language and will be able to share with you a lot about the history of Tikal and the Mayan people that occupied the site.
